Signals from vehicle tracking devices can be jammed.  The question you might be asking yourself is why would the signal be jammed and is this a problem for your fleet?  When you own a fleet you want to know where the truck or car is at all times.  This helps you monitor your driver as well as the vehicle.  It helps reduce operational costs and increase productivity.

In a business your vehicle tracking signal should never be jammed.  There is no reason for it on your end.  However, there are possible reasons why a driver may jam the signal.  Privacy is one of the top reasons GPS vehicle tracking devices get jammed.  The employee knows you are tracking them.  They may be upset by this and be doing nothing wrong.  On the other hand they may jam the signal when they go off grid and record that they were working.

In truth this criminal act of jamming by employees is not common.  It may happen once in four hundred companies.  Most employees realise the need for the tracking device and prefer vehicle tracking in the car over to the personal tracking devices you could be using.

The main reason a signal is jammed on a fleet vehicle is if the vehicle has been stolen.  There is also a low rate of this happening to fleet vehicles. Most criminals do not worry about jamming the device or even consider that it might have vehicle tracking.

There are two options usually used in jamming vehicle tracking.  The first is buying a GPS jamming device.  The other is to get at the cables on the device and either remove the device or wrap foil around the cables so that it cannot transmit.  A thief is more likely to use foil rather than spend money on the jamming equipment.  This is often good news for you as the foil can fall off.

We brought up vehicle tracking jammers for one reason.  It is a good idea to know everything you can about the system you are installing.  If you know the potential risks that could affect the system you have a better means to protect your fleet.  As we mentioned, jamming the signal is very rare.  Typically the criminal does not worry about it.  If the employee is the one to affect the signal then you have a cause to terminate their employment.

In this case you know that the employee is not willing to work for you.  Most employees are faithful and not willing to spend the money.  So, you can feel safe in spending the money on the device.  Vehicle tracking is expensive.  You want to make sure that it will indeed protect you and perform well.  This is another reason that understanding the GPS jammers can help you.  You now know you do not have to be overly concerned about the issue, and therefore you can begin to focus more on lowering your operational costs and increasing your employee productivity.
