Vehicle Tracking Payment Options

Purchasing vehicle tracking products takes quite a few considerations. Part of this is to decide what payment method to use. There are three main ways to pay for your new device. There are also advantages and disadvantages to each option.

Buying System Upfront

One choice you have is to purchase the vehicle system with a full payment. Basically, you will own the system the minute it is sent to you or installed depending on where you purchase it from. You will have to pay the provider for airtime minutes, but this also means you have lower monthly costs because you are not trying to pay off the system along with the airtime minutes you pay for. You do have to have the entire amount of the vehicle tracking system in your bank account, which can be hard for some.

When you buy the system outright you may find the vehicle tracking company goes out of business. If this happens you have to purchase a whole new system and pay someone else for air time minutes. You may not be able to switch your current system over to a new airtime minutes provider since the GPS devices are usually manufacturer specific. This does not make for an attractive option if your company disappears. You can protect against this by checking out the history of the company to see if they are stable. In the current economy, it is easier to see who will survive and who will not. When you are no longer happy with your current provider you will face the same issues of buying a new system.

The main advantage of this payment option is that buying the system makes the next three or four years cheaper.

Buy on Lease

Buying a vehicle tracking system with a lease is one of the most popular methods. You get to spread the cost of the system out over time. It means you do not need a large sum at the very beginning. There are a few companies that do not offer lease. Lease companies tend to be stricter when it comes to leasing options due to the bank collapses seen in recent years.

A disadvantage of leasing tracking systems is the contracts. You may be stuck in a contract for three to five years, even when the system lets you down. You will have to pay off the contract early if you want out of the lease. In this situation if you are unhappy with the device or services you have to wait a couple of years till the contract ends, which is better than having to buy a whole new system.

Monthly Payment Option

The third way to purchase tracking systems is through a monthly payment option like pay as you go. It can also be a 12 month contract where you spend a bit more than leasing, but you are also held in a contract for a lesser period of time. It is a better deal if you feel you may be unhappy with the company.
